Focusing on growth in India

Over the last five years, the Indian industrial truck market has grown fivefold and currently stands at around 16,500 trucks per year and it is set to continue growing. KION Group wants to harness the potential of this fast-growing market by investing in a new production facility in Pune.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant has already taken place at KION’s Indian production site in Pune, in the western state of Maharashtra. The site, located on 94,000 sq.m., will incorporate a cutting-edge industrial truck production facility, a research and development center and a training center for service employees. Space for future growth of another KION brand, Dematic, in India is also planned. The expansion is set to create roughly 100 additional jobs at KION India.

KION Group's presence in theIndians intralogistics market dates back to 2011. KION India has been the leading forklift truck and warehouse technology vendor in this emerging market through sales of its brand companies, OM and OM Voltas. In addition to OM and OM Voltas products, KION India also sells industrial trucks, warehouse technology and services from Baoli and Linde. Thus, its serves the premium, value and economy segments in the market. In recent months, it has also launched supply chain solutions from Dematic on the Indian market.

In addition to its production facility, KION also has a network of over 40 branches and dealerships for sales and service, represented in more than 100 outlets across the country. “The new state-of-the-art plant and R&D center will allow us to better serve our customers in the rapidly expanding Indian market,” says Eike Böhm, Chief Technology Officer and a member of the Executive Board of KION GROUP AG.

KION India currently employs around 400 individuals and will continue to focus on its employees. “Our current workforce and the addition of 100 new employees will benefit from a cutting-edge workplace, while the new R&D center and the market launch of Dematic will open up further opportunities,” explains Sunil Gupta, President of KION India.
